Abstract:

The trilingual and biliterate language education policy has been guiding the design of Hong Kong language education and has been used to signify the unique advantages of the language environment of Hong Kong and its role to bridge its motherland and the rest of the world. Along with the societal development over the decades, a multitude of factors have changed and brought an impact to language education – The composition of students in Hong Kong changes to include more students from the mainland and ethnic minority (EM); technological advances rapidly and the AI is driving the evolution of education and many walks of life; Medium of Instruction (MOI) has evolved to using Putonghua to teach Chinese, and Chinese is the second language to many EM students.

In this forum, experts from English language and Putonghua education will share their views and discuss the essence of language learning in this everchanging world. The role of AI and EdTech in language learning will also be discussed.
